Metal Silver

Over 100 graded by NGC and only ten finer. Sculptor, Robert Aiken, designed the official medal and the Medallic Art Co. prepared the dies. The silver and gold-plated medals were struck by the Philadelphia Mint while the bronze medals were struck at the exposition by the U.S. Mint and sold by the exposition Department of Official Coins and Medals run by Farren Zerbe. The obverse features Mercury opening the canal locks for the ship Argo, the symbol of navigation. One of the earliest supermodels Audrey Munson modeled for the reverse which features two female figures entwined around the earth holding cornucopias symbolizing abundance and the uniting of the two oceans. This example has sheening luster with attractive golden and russet hues along the perimeter.
