Audrey Munson - 1915 PPIE Exposition Girl

There is a book coming out in May 2016 on the life of Audrey Munson that might be of interest to SCD collectors ("The Curse of Beauty: The Tragic Life of Audrey Munson, America's First Supermodel" by James Bone). Audrey Munson was a famous model who posed for sculptors in New York and around the country (including sculptures at the 1915 PPIE). http://www.sfcityguides.org/public_guidelines.html?article=1650&submitted=TRUE&srch_text=Panama-Pacific&submitted2=TRUE&topic= The New York Post has an interesting article about here (google it), and her likeness is likely represented on Walking Liberty 1/2 dollars. While not directly related, the vibe around this topic is somewhat represented in the Great Gatsby: http://www.warnerbros.com/great-gatsby It's interesting to look at the expositions and events in the 1910s-1920s in the context of history of those times (HK-667, HK-672, HK-738 in particular).

An earlier biography of Audrey Munson was published in 1999, American Venus: The Extraordinary Life of Audrey Munson Model and Muse, by Diane Rozas and Anita Bourne Gottehrer. She was Aitken's model for the the PPIE Official medal.
