Gettysburg

The H+K book mentions little about who made the HK-285 SCDs. I recently acquired the pictured piece and thought i'd post the original packaging here. I guess we can say that Robert Sneider Co Engravers at 145 Fulton Street in New York issued these pieces. I haven't dug yet on when this company was in business, but I presume after 1911 if these SCDs were made from metal from the USS Maine itself...

certainly seems to fit. Often comes mounted. Here is a medal I have commemorating the 25 anniversary. However one side is re encampment so some may say doesn't fit.

Engineer I think this is where a lot of the purists go sideways. This is an 25th Anniversary token for Gettysburg 25th Anniversary and qualifies in every way. The fact that the GAR was one of the attendies in no way diminishes it. No different than for the multiple groups attending dedications, world fairs, industrial exhibitions etc. If the GAR just held a meeting 25 yrs after the battle on Gettysburg grounds pitched their pup tents drank their beer and were the only ones there then it might not qualify. This was a major Pennsylvania event and should be treated as such.

Gettysburg is one of the pivotal and highlights event in our Country yet not a single So Called Dollar listed. We've talked about a few and John Raymond has a few but nothing dated in the few older appearing pieces (prior say to 1900). It is smaller than the Washington Monument and Louisiana Exposition and other pieces and I would propose that this piece that I haven't seen before should be included in the book in the future. ,
