Thank you for the information, much appreciated. I was able to track down a copy of the catalog from the sale and should have it in the next week or two, but your information certainly helps in the meantime. I was lucky to acquire all 6 of these recently so I can confirm that this portion of the Bill Weber collection is still intact. They are all still in NGC holders w/ the Bill Weber Collection pedigree and the current grades are as follows: HK-262: NGC MS65PL HK-263: NGC MS66 HK-264: NGC MS65 HK-265: NGC MS65 HK-266: NGC MS65 HK-267: NGC MS67 Now I just need to find one of the original boxes these sets were sold in 🙂 Mike edited by mjkittle on 11/8/2014

SO YOUR SAYING YOUR LOOKING FOR LOT #1584 IN THE DEC 9TH HOLABIRD ON LINE SALE??????

Wonderful photos. Sorry, not interested in selling at the moment.... but I think your collection is fabulous !

rjesinger - Nice to "meet" you. I am just learning about this So-Called Dollars (first post). I did pick up a few SCDs, HK-262 through HK-267 (minus the HK-263). It has been interesting learning about these. I will try to post some pictures, if I can figure out how. Any idea what the value of these are? Would you be interested in selling the HK-263 you have? Thanks JB edited by JimBobNW on 5/30/2013

I thought i'd post some of my Lauer SCDs from the California Midwinter Expo (I own 3 between HK-262 to HK-267). Bill Hyder wrote an outstanding article on the entire California Midwinter Expo in the TAMS Journal, Oct 2009, Vol 49, No 5. Quoting Bill: "The exposition palace medals produced by the Nurnberg Germany form of Lauer were among the most detailed producted for the Midwinter Exposition. The firm received a Gold Medal of Award in San Francisco for their work. They produced six medals and a container for them (inscribed FIRST PREMIUM / Aluminum Medals / Midwinter Fair / SIX VIEWS) for sale at the fair. ... No other medals portray the elegance of the buildings as well as the Lauer medals." Astounding article Bill.... which I use as a reference frequently. If anyone could post a picture of the box or other Lauer's from the 1894 Midwinter Fair, we'd love to see them. I realize that the firm made other SCDs for other fairs, but perhaps those could be placed under a different post.

Let's try this... Just missing HK-263 (Fine Arts Bldg). I even have the small round tin the SCD came in. edited by JimBobNW on 5/31/2013

I wanted to add to the discussion with my HK-341. These are listed in HK as brass but mine is clearly copper or bronze and it is the clock tower variety. It looks like the surfaces have been plated. Zoom in on the photo and look at the area around the word "souvenir". http://www.flickr.com/photos/19650091@N04/12397098334/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/19650091@N04/12396763863/

I've always loved the design of these Lauer pieces from the 1894 expo. They are just so detailed and beautiful. Does anyone here happen to have a breakdown of what the pieces from the Bill Weber collection sold for at the Holabird-Kagin sale in December 2008? I have read elsewhere that the six pieces together sold for over $7600, but it would be nice to have the breakdown of the prices on the HK-262, HK-263, HK-264, HK-265, HK-266 and HK-267. I have tried to get a copy of this catalog without luck (anyone have a spare), but I have found a copy of the prices realized in .pdf format. So, if you know the lot numbers of the coins in the sale (and what the buyer's premium at the sale was) I could do that math as well. Thank you in advance. Mike
