Shipping SCDs Registered to NGC

For what it is worth, I have read a number of posts on Collectors Universe related to our friends at the US Postal Service and other mail delivery services (FEDEX, UPS, etc) related to shipping losses. It is interesting to note that (i) shipping Registered mail is supposedly most secure, and (ii) there seem to be varied opinions about what the USPS will accept as far as registered mail packaging. Personally, I always ship my SCDs in boxes (not envelopes) and completely tape the outside of the box with secure reinforced gummed paper tape. Given how hard it can be to find some of the rarer so-called dollars, it's worth careful shipping of these items. When I mail rare so-called dollars, I always use this type of gummed tape on the outside of the box, and I watch as the USPS folks stamp every seam of the box during the registered shipping process. To be honest, the last few times I have mailed things, the folks at the USPS have commented on what a "model" my boxes are for registered shipping. I am not "tooting my horn..." but rather would want to make sure another SCD never disappears in the mail... As a parting thought, during my last trip to the USPS, a lady at the counter was very upset over a ring being lost in "insured" mail... She was screaming at the teller about the loss... one wonders how things would have turned out had she mailed registered with a near-impenetrable box...

As an update to this thread, I thought i'd add that I have also begun taking important/expensive SCDs to coin shows to submit to NGC and PCGS in person.... and if you go to major shows regularly, you can pick them up at the next show... so this entire shipping issue becomes irrelevant in the grading process.
