Hibler and Kappen likely overlooked this medal as it is incorrectly cataloged as 32mm in Trantow’s study of the exonumia of the Lewis and Clark Exposition. Most examples have “rabbit ears”, a loop at both 11:00 and 1:00, that were added after the medal was struck. This medal never had “rabbit ears” attached. Plain edge, medal orientation. We believe they were all gold-plated, worn examples can look like brass or even bronze.
