In the January 1876 issue of the American Journal of Numismatics Henry W. Holland began his series “Centennial Medals” – a series that listed 206 different medals, in all compositions, relating to the centennial when completed in October 1878. This medal was cataloged by Holland in silver and is photographed in Hibler & Kappen’s So-Called Dollar book. No other compositions are known.
