Holding this medal in my hand reminds me of the stories of what George Washington’s army endured in Valley Forge. Only 29 have been certified by NGC. This medal commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the departure of the Continental Army from Valley Forge. Authorized by Congress, designed and engraved by William Barber and struck in Bronze in 1878 at the Philadelphia Mint. Obverse features the bust of George Washington. A fabulous Bronzed Proof from the latter 1800’s.
