For Sale: HK-289 1901 Pan-American Exposition Official SCD

The official medal struck for the Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo, New York. Obverse features a standing heroic male atop a flying eagle. On the reverse is a relief map of the western hemisphere. Designed by George Thomas Brewster, dies engraved by the U.S. Mint and struck and sold at the U.S. Mint exhibit. Obverse die signed lower left. Originally cataloged as struck in silver, copper, and brass. Copper was not issued. What was cataloged as brass are in fact gold-plated copper. Silver-plated modern counterfeits are known.
