The design depicts and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase by Thomas Jefferson from Napoleon Bonaparte; 1,000,000 square miles for $15,000,000. Designed by George T. Morgan and struck in the U.S. Mint Exhibit at the Exposition. Microscopic M on Jefferson’s bust truncation for Morgan. Gilt varieties are the same as gold-plated.
