There are three different die varieties: upper variety – initials I&J off the coast of Mexico, lower variety – initials I&J off the coast of Central America, and no initials variety. This is the “Upper Variety” with initials I&J off the coast of Mexico. Hensley would later use this design to strike a similar medal for the 1939-40 Golden Gate International Exposition, see (SH 23-4).
