TOP POP and one of only two certified by NGC. This medal has the number 8 counterpunched on the reverse following No for number. Other than the 1, no other counterpunched numbers are known for any of the star reverses except for few different varieties in copper, which are known counterpunched with an upside down 8. Struck in copper. Engraved by George B. Soley, who was a diesinker and worked at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia from 1859 until his death in 1908. A seated woman, similar to that on William Barber’s 1873-1885 U.S. Trade Dollars, represents America.
