This is an NGC certified “Die Adjustment Strike” – “Mint Error”. Struck by the U.S. Mint. When the pressman is setting up the press to start striking medals, the initial strikes can be weak, and then the press is adjusted for the next trials strike. This is an early and excessively rare early die trial striking. They appear to be low grade worn examples, but they are strictly uncirculated with no signs of wear. I have seen a few of these for this medal. Struck in bronze. Official Medal from the 1907 Jamestown Tercentennial Exposition held in Norfolk, Virginia. Obverse features the female Indian bust of Pocahontas, the reverse features the ship of Captain John Smith. Bronze. Engraved by George Morgan and struck at the U.S. Mint Exhibit on the exposition grounds.
