The medals created for this year’s 13th Fellowship Gathering Educational Symposium will be especially noteworthy, as they are being struck in ultra-high relief on exceptionally thick planchets. While past symposium medals were typically produced on planchets approximately 2 mm thick, this year’s pieces will be struck on 4 mm planchets, providing the depth and metal flow necessary to fully showcase their dramatic relief.
The silver Gold-Plated version will be edge marked .999 FS and the star on the reverse will be Gold-Plated. I do not yet have an image of the reverse with Gold-Plating.
The obverse features the iconic Liberty Bell design from the 1876 Centennial Exposition So-Called Dollar HK-23 / SH 2-4. The reverse revives the celebrated “Star” design engraved by George B. Soley for the 1876 Centennial Exposition, with the legend modified specifically to commemorate the 13th Fellowship Gathering.
To appeal to a wide range of collectors, the medals will be struck in six different compositions: silver, silver with selective gold plating, copper, copper with selective gold plating, brass, and antiqued brass. The combination of historic designs, ultra-high relief, and multiple metallic finishes promises to make these among the most distinctive Fellowship Gathering medals produced to date.
The medals will not be available for shipping until Mid-July.
