Certified Deep Proof Like by NGC. This is the smaller 28mm version of HK-222. Attractive medal struck by Wilhelm Mayer of Stuttgart, Germany and sold by the Heeren Bros., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Signed W.M. below the bust. Also comes in 55mm, and 90mm sizes, and smaller 28mm versions not cataloged here. Compare to George Morgan’s portrait of Liberty on the silver dollar. The authors believe these were all struck as proofs. All varieties have what appears to be a dropped O on the reverse above 400th. The entire obverse features a profile of Liberty in high relief with stars along the perimeter. Columbus landing scene on the reverse. Struck in Aluminum.
