7th Annual Fellowship Gathering in Reno August 2020

The seventh annual Educational Fellowship Gathering scheduled for 2020 was almost canceled, but it was held at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno. Typically around 15 advanced so-called dollar collectors attend the Annual Fellowship Gatherings, which usually start on a Friday evening and conclude Monday late afternoon. Nine collectors said they would attend if I held the event in 2020. I decided nine was good number, it was enough collectors that we would be able to have some great presentations and interesting discussions.

We had our informal get-together before we all went out to dinner. We reconvened for a game of So-Called Numismatic Jeopardy with prizes followed by an enjoyable evening of live music by Fred. There were close to a dozen presentations on topics ranging from U.S. International Expositions, SCD’s struck by Daniel Carr, Liberty SCD’s, Pikes Peak medals, 1876 Centennial Woods and Medals by William Warner. Bill was not physically there for the first time ever, but he participated virtually by giving a presentation on Dickeson’s Continental Dollar. Look for an article that is to appear in The Numismatist later this year on the same topic. Although my wife Cecilia participates on a regular basis, we had our first female full-time member, Laura, join us for the entire weekend. She and Bill said they are looking forward to attending next year. We had an open bourse, and discussions on our favorite so-called dollars and unlisted varieties. Most evenings ended quite late.

Jeff & Fred

The final day Fred entertained us all by taking us on a tour of Virginia City’s historical sites and actually going into an underground mine. I did bump my head a few times. The 2021 Educational Fellowship Gathering will be held, but the location is still undetermined.
