Scott Stamp & Coin Company, in their October 27, 1879 auction, lot #689, sold a white example with a Soley signature. It was reported that two in white metal and two in gold-plated copper were struck and then the dies were altered, according to Holland. Soley’s signature is replaced with a feathered pen and twig on the more common unsigned varieties.
