1967 Hiram Chittenden Locks, 50th Anniversary. General Chittenden of the US Army Corps of Engineers, was in charge of building the locks. The obv. features Gen. Chittenden, the rev. a scene of the locks. The medal is antiqued bronze and is plentiful and inexpensive on eBay.
The locks separate Puget Sound from the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The grounds are beautiful and have concessions, a picnic area and ample parking. The best season to visit is mid-AugustĀ thru mid September when the salmon go through the fish ladder and jump out of the water. Seattle is beautiful in August.
