Blended ocean-blue and mauve-plum toning grade the peripheries on both the obverse and reverse. Rare silver variety, one of the “Three Kings” of silver SCD’s. Stacks sold an Specimen PCGS 64 for $17,400 in 2022. Medal commemorates the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. Authorized by Congress and designed and engraved by William Barber and struck by the U.S. Mint. Obverse features the bust of U.S. Grant and states “The Oceans United by Railway”. The reverse depicts a mountain scene with a train.
