Metal White Metal

“What a glorious morning for America” Samuel Adams exclaimed after the Battle of Lexington, April 19, 1775, which marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The gold, silver and bronze medals were struck at the Philadelphia Mint; the white-metal pieces were privately minted later. Dies by Henry Mitchell from designs by Edward Griffin Porta. This was the first medal struck for the 1876 Centennial Exposition Celebration. This example is holed, as are almost all of the white metal examples. The hold has been partially filled.
