This is a most unusual offering. The silver HK-20 is often found with it’s original leather book style holder, but this is a custom example of the book style holder made by the American Dairymen’s Association. This is the only example this cataloger has ever seen and may quite possibly be unique. The CH BU silver official SCD has been in this holder since 1876. Includes original leather box of issue, with tri-fold book-style holder and the case it slides into. The leather holder is attractive, but the binding has detached, but could be repaired. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Authorized by Congress and struck in the Mint Exhibit at the Exposition. The obverse depicts Liberty rising with a sword in her hand. The United States was sending a message to the world with the design of the official medal for the 1876 Centennial Celebration. The obverse features liberty in a reclining position rising up, reaching for the stars symbolizing that the United States will be recognized as a world power. At that time most of Europe considered the United States to be a third world country. Struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This medal was designed and engraved by William Barber, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, and sold at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Struck in Silver.
