A rare DPL with cameo contrast, maybe not the highest numerical grade but certainly an attractive example with plenty of DPL pop. This is the second in a series of eight medals with a large bust of Washington, engraved and issued by George Hampden Lovett to commemorate the Revolutionary Battles of 1776. The battle of Sullivan’s Island is also known as the Battle of Fort Sullivan near Charleston, South Carolina, which was the first British attempt to capture the city from American rebels. It was a land and sea battle.
