Only 4 have been certified by NGC, the bronze varieties are extremely scarce. An opportunity to pick up one of these varieties very seldom occurs. The second in a series of eight medals with a large bust of Washington, engraved and issued by George Hampden Lovett to commemorate the Revolutionary Battles of 1776. The battle of Sullivan’s Island is also known as the Battle of Fort Sullivan near Charleston, South Carolina, which was the first British attempt to capture the city from American rebels. It was a land and sea battle. According to David Proskey, writing in his May 1886 sale, just 20 were struck in bronze.
