This example has semi-proof like fields that are not evident from the photograph. One of the most desirable SCD’s from the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Struck in in White Metal. Both dies were engraved by George B. Soley. Soley was an assistant engraver at the U.S. Mint, and this medal was most certainly struck at the U.S. Mint. Soley’s Washington Large Bust die is also found paired with Key’s Liberty Bell SH 2-11. Presidential Sale #58 cataloged lot 193 as struck in copper nickel.
