Struck in Gilt on a thick planchet. The reverse looks reddish in the photo, but is actually much more golden in color. Engraved by George Morgan, and not listed in Julian’s book of U.S. Mint medals, which causes this medal to be a somewhat unknown sleeper. Obverse scene depicts massacre by Indians with tomahawks attacking settlers. Reverse features a monument.
