Graded AU details “graffiti” is actually a rather harsh grade, as the grading firm does not realize that these so-called dollars were sold in the Negro Building at the exposition and almost all of them have initials punched into them, almost certainly done at the exposition, as made. This one has the initials F.E.M. The obverse shows black laborers picking cotton with the engraver’s signature, ALF. VESTER., PROV. RI., along the base of the design. The reverse includes a globe design found on other souvenirs along with the exposition inscription. Some medals include an engraved name above the globe as seen on the piece pictured here, H.C. TROST.
