This is the “Plate Coin” in So-Called Dollars Volume I. This is the scarcest of the five different Columbian Exposition Box Dollars. Struck in STERLING SILVER, this mechanical box dollar opens up reveal a central cavity. One of five different Box Dollars from the Columbian Exposition. Placing finger pressure at the top of the reverse will cause the bottom reverse to pop open to reveal a small round picture frame inside. This one has the original picture, in nice condition. Marked STERLING on the interior. Not signed and the engraver is unknown.
