“PLATE COIN” as photographed in the book SCD’s Volume 1. An interesting error is on this medal as it states Columbus discovered America on October 21 1492, but the date was October 12. Likely an engravers error flipflopping the 1 & 2. Unlisted in Hibler & Kappen. Standing Columbus obverse within a half wreath, combined with a Discovery of America reverse legend, silver-plated. Occasionally found with a silver washed brass filigreed pin back. Same reverse as SH 6-40. All observed have been holed. The silver-plated were struck on heavy planchets and are perhaps low grade silver.
