This is the third finest of only six certified in BRONZE for the 1893 Columbian Exposition Official SCD, as such, it is exceptionally scarce and nearly the TOP POP, with only three certified finer, two in 63 and one in 65. NGC certified it as HK-155D, the “D” for the bronze variety. Certainly one of the greatest rarities from the entire Columbian Exposition. This SCD is also struck in silver, for which there are a few known, and white metal, of which 4 were reported from the George Morgan estate, and one in copper, and five in bronze. From the Jeff Shevlin Collection. This is the Lower Flag variety, Small Letter variety of the Official U.S. Mint souvenir medal minted on the fairgrounds. Engraved by George Morgan, his signature “M” is below the edifice to the far right. Struck in BRONZE. What appears as a red spot on the reverse at 12:00 is not red on the medal, it just appears that way in the photograph.
