TOP POP. Unique. The only one certified, and it is certified as a “DPL”. This is a copper-plated variety, not listed in the latest book So-Called Dollars Volume I: U.S. Expositions. Quite a few of the Lauer medals are known copper-plated, this is a new discovery piece, not previously cataloged. NGC incorrectly uses the term brass for the gold-plated varieties, and they use the term bronze for the copper-plated varieties. The Lauer firm plated all of the medals, except the aluminum, with either gold, silver or copper. Those are the four varieties that they sold. NGC certified this as HK-183C bronze, which is the copper-plated type. The so-called Palace and the Building reverse dies that were struck with the Columbus obverse bust, were paired with each other to create less common examples of the Lauer medals.
