This is an exceptionally rare wide EUREKA variety, as listed in the book “So-Called Dollars Volume I: U.S. Expositions.” An AU 50 sold in the Weber Auction for $375. L.H. Moise, a minter in San Francisco, struck this version of the official medal. Moise reused the obverse die to strike a number of additional medals celebrating events in California. See Shevlin & Hyder’s article “The Golden Age of Numismatics” published in The Numismatist June, 2010. Struck in brass.
