The obverse features a bail of cotton bursting into flames, symbolizing the destruction of the South and Atlanta during the Civil War when Union Army Major General William T. Sherman captured and burned Atlanta. The Phoenix Bird, symbolizing renewal and resurrection, is rising above the bail of cotton. Official Medal from the exposition, Gold-Plated.
