Without a doubt the nicest Official Cotton States SCD I have ever seen. A true GEM BU+ with Proof-Like surfaces. Definitely a very early striking well preserved. Struck by the U.S. Mint at the exposition and believed to be engraved by Charles Barber. The obverse features a bail of cotton bursting into flames, symbolizing the destruction of the South and Atlanta during the Civil War when Union Army Major General William T. Sherman captured and burned Atlanta. The Phoenix Bird, symbolizing renewal and resurrection, is rising above the bail of cotton. Official Medal from the exposition, Gold-Plated.
