I believe this is a “Bronzed Proof”. This example is absolutely spectacular. 17 have been certified by NGC and only two finer, but I doubt they are as nice as this one. Near TOP POP. General Anthony Wayne in a military uniform adorns the obverse. An officer and statesman of Irish decent, at the outset of the American Revolutionary War his military exploits and fiery personality quickly earned him promotion to brigadier general and the nickname “Mad Anthony”. A spectacular battle scene on the reverse with the legend “Stony Point Expugnatum” above. Struck as an superb bronze medal typical of the quality of the late 1800’s.
