Metal Gold-Plated

The winged female standing on a globe with ships, trains, buildings, and agriculture in the background promotes Charleston’s well-situated shipping port and the potential for trade with the West Indies, and Central and South America. This official medal was designed by George T. Morgan and struck in the U.S. Mint exhibit at the exposition. On the reverse, lower ribbon, there is an M for Morgan, similar to the “M” on the reverse of the Morgan Dollar. The Hibler & Kappen book identifies these as struck in brass but the are in fact all gold-plated. Twenty-sever certified by NGC with only seven graded finer. This is the only one certified by NGC as “Gilt”, but they were all struck gold-plated.
