Near TOP POP, only four graded finer. This medal has an interesting die crack on the reverse at 9:00. The design depicts and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase by Thomas Jefferson from Napoleon Bonaparte; 1,000,000 square miles for $15,000,000. Designed by George T. Morgan and struck in the U.S. Mint Exhibit at the Exposition. Microscopic M on Jefferson’s bust truncation for Morgan. The planchets were melted and re-processed daily, the copper/bronze compositions varied.
