On the obverse is a bust of Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike. The mountain Pike’s Peak is on the reverse. Struck in Bronze in 1909, a hoard was discovered in 1959 and the medals were re-issued for the 150th anniversary celebration. It is believed all were made with loops, most have been professionally removed, particularly for the 1959 re-sale. This medal is one of the few that has been certified and therefore does not have a removed loop. Engraved by Charles Barber and struck at the U.S. Philadelphia Mint.
