This is the Gold-Plated variety, exceptionally scarce and popular. Graded Uncirculated details, mount removed, as is quite common on the Gold-Plated pieces. On the obverse is a bust of Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike. The mountain Pike’s Peak is on the reverse. Struck in Bronze in 1909, a hoard was discovered in 1959 and the medals were re-issued for the 150th anniversary celebration. It is believed all were made with loops, most have been professionally removed, particularly for the 1959 re-sale. Includes original Pikes Peak Red, White and Blue ribbon.
