Struck to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Obverse features a Washington bust in the center within 13 stars. Reverse depicts Liberty torch in upraised left hand and palm branch in right, rides flying Pegasus to right above clouds, torch held between sun and rays, microsignature ALBIN POLASEK to the left. Previously cataloged in both copper and bronze, they appear to be the same composition, which the authors have cataloged as bronze. Brass varieties are actually gold-plated. Designed by Albin Polasek and struck by the U.S. Mint.
