This medal commemorates the United States Naval Battle Fleets visit to San Diego in 1908 on its voyage around the world under the command of admiral Robley D. Evans. Admiral Evans, known as “Fighting Bob”, was captain of the first ship that fired guns against the Spanish at Santiago during the Spanish American war of 1898.
