George Washington in high relief adorns the obverse. Struck to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Continental Army’s encampment at Valley Forge. Washington’s ill-equipped and under-nourished soldiers spent a winter under terrible conditions at Valley Forge. Washington always acknowledged that the perseverance gained by the soldiers at Valley Forge was what made the Continental Army bind together even stronger and eventually win the war.
