Designed by Charles E. Barber and struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Pike’s Peak by Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike during his Southwest Expedition of 1806-1807, which followed the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark’s expedition with the Corp of Discovery.
