HK-630 Bunker Hill Monument 50th Anniv Carnival

A nice HK-630...

The Bunker Hill Monument was built between 1827 and 1843 in Charlestown (the oldest neighborhood in Boston), MA to commemorate the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill, the first major conflict in the revolutionary war. The extended construction period was partly due to financial problems in funding the monument. In September 1840, the women of the Bunker Hill Monument Association held a fair to raise money, selling needlework and artistic creations, and by report raised $33K over the seven days of the fair, enough to complete the obelisk monument. A 43mm so-called dollar (found in white medal and bronze) survives to this day from this event.
