Oxen pulling a covered wagon heading west being escorted by a cowboy on horseback adorn the obverse. The reverse depicts the U.S. Air Force Academy logo in tribute to its First Commencement and Official Dedication by President Eisenhower. Designed by Arthur Roy Mitchell, modeled by Frank Gasparro and struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
