Engraved by William Barber, the medal commemorates the departure of the Continental Army from Valley Forge on June 19, 1778. A large naked bust of George Washington adorns the obverse. Struck originally in 1880 at the Philadelphia Mint it became one of the medals in the U.S. Mint Medal Series.
